Here we are!

Bruce and I are finding ourselves in a unique set of circumstances.  Our elders, from many traditions and teachings, have all uniformly warned us to be mindful about what we ask for from the Ancestors as they.

We might just get what we asked for.

Our journey has expanded over many years , lands and people and never did we suspect that we would age to the point of having something to offer others, thats not meant to self derogatory, we all think that youth is forever and we become dependent on the nature of being the “apprentice”.

But, here we are.

In a cowry shell reading with Malidoma Some’, following some deeply life changing challenges he predicted this day was in the near future and even laughed at my attempts to downplay what he was reading.  He knew this path and knew where it was taking us and was offering his guidance.

But, here we are.

Bruce and I recently had the privilege of speaking to a significant crowd of healthcare providers about the mystical, spiritual aspects of wellness.  We were challenging the industrial healthcare system to be more open to paths and traditions of spirituality and to better grasp the Body, Mind, Spirit aspects of wellness.  We were nervous as we weren’t sure how we would be perceived by this highly educated and esteemed group of professionals.  Before this event, in a Pipe Ceremony, I asked the ancestors to confirm their support and guidance and I got a deep sense that all would be well.

I’ve spoken many times before but never on such an intimate part of my life.  I was a bit intimidated and secretly hoped our invitation would be revoked.

I told Bruce we should begin the presentation with an invitation to the ancestors and spirits of the land to help us out.  As we began our presentation we acknowledged the ancestors and indigenous peoples of the Ute, Paiute, Shoshone, Dine and Goshute.    We called on our ancestors of our lineages and honored the directions.  We called on the ancestors of the participants to open the line of communications with open hearts and minds. 

The audience was attentive and quiet, paying close attention to our process with curiosity.  Then Bruce began to share our story and relationships with the various wisdom keepers who have stood by our side as teachers and mentors.  Bruce was amazing, as a novice speaker, the words just flowed effortlessly.  I had the same experience as I spoke, as we both came out of the “shaman’s”  closet, it felt like we were gardeners planting seeds for a bountiful harvest.

When we were done it was apparent that people were touched and moved.  Many had kind words and felt it was about time the discussion came to light.

Bruce and I were moved. 

Once again we witnessed the power of the ancestors taking the helm and gently guiding the healing of a community, a seed.  I’m often amazed after a retreat or ceremony as I recall the unfolding of the other world engaged with us and how lives are enlightened.   I was amazed at how the ancestors moved through us and delivered their message.

But, here we are.

I’m looking at our schedule of events and it’s a full year already.  Mongolia, Peru, Elders from Peru visiting, healthcare retreat, another retreat in April.  The summer months and fall are already filling up.

There is a hunger in the land, a transformative feast is fully engaged and perhaps, in the seemingly drought of good will, there are people eager to engage and show up and do this labor of love and spirit. A wellness to redeem humanity by engaging the world of the sacred.
