Queer Spirit Retreat

Summer Retreat

This Queer Men’s retreat is a calling for men to come together to explore the magic of being Queer in this rapidly changing world. Sage, Young, Trans, Gay, Bi or any variation to the relationship of Queer is invited to explore the power and birthright of this sacred calling. Ancient tribes and communities of indigenous societies see being Queer as a unique sacred gift. Throughout various cultures and traditions Queer folks have been the gatekeepers, medicine folk and shamans; unique conduits of Spirit and healing to tribe and community. This retreat is a unique exploration of these sacred gifts.

The Eagle Bone Whistle is a unique tool that is carefully crafted by hollowing the bone until it’s absolutely clear. This whistle is used to call upon the spirits to hear our cry. In some sacred ceremonies you will hear this whistle used to call the spirits and often powerful manifestations of this are evident. Using the metaphor of the hollow bone, we seek to clear the internal self from the challenges of living in a domesticated world that has marginalized our identities and seeks to keep hidden the gifts of being Queer.

To find the blessing of being Queer we are inviting participants to clear the debris that keeps you connected from the sacred sense of self. By using mindfulness, ritual and ceremony we energetically clear the path for the magic to flow. By partaking of inner cleansing and healing we access interpersonal potential and sacred gifts. This retreat is an invitation to do the deeper process of the retrieval of our authentic and queer selves, liberating ourselves from old stories/beliefs and stepping into a deeper process of radical self acceptance and celebration.

What to Expect: This is general guideline and hopefully helpful in understanding our process. We will gather on Thursday and begin the process of getting to know each other, set our sacred space with an altar created by us and a reflection of what we seek. We will explore our relationship and history with our Ancestors (spirit connections, guides, etc) including our Queer Ancestors, those who paved the path before us as we carry forward the vision of fully realized Queer Folk. This will lead us to a ritual in which we send offerings and feed these ancestors on the other side. A very powerful process that is often difficult to describe. The concept of “ancestors” is broad and includes those of our lineage as well as friends who have crossed, 4-legged loves ones, and spiritual helpers who assist from the other side.

On Friday John will lead us in Yoga and Mindfulness process. John tailors his sessions more about body/mind connections versus physical agility so these exercises are about opening our energetic selves. Later we will gather in Heart Circles and begin to share, exploring the aspects of ourselves we chose to release in making room for grander visions. We will prepare our Sweat Lodge, prepare Prayer Ties and move towards our ritual of release via the fire as well as the evening sweat lodge. We will be there to coach you through this process so you are well taken care of.

Saturday will begin with more Yoga followed by sharing in Heart Circle and then moving to the work of envisioning our futures as Queer Spirit Magicians…. fully embracing a story of deliberate movement toward our future.

This is a loose outline as we learn more about our participants and what may be needed we may explore options to our process but wanted to offer some perspective on what to expect. Our goal is to create a powerful container for us to share, examine, explore and initiate a powerful process forward in our lives as a sacred community of Queer Men holding space for each other.
